Bear baiting bears endure a life of suffering. These beautiful bears have their sensitive noses pierced, their teeth removed and claws blunted. They are tied to a post and set-upon by fighting dogs in front of a cheering crowd. Bears sustain more injuries than dogs and usually suffer ripped noses and mouths. Most bears are permanently scarred, but the killing of either animal is avoided, as they are too valuable. It's not entertainment, it's inhumane and illegal – yet it's still happening today.

When you buy a WSPA Wild Gift this Father’s Day you can help prevent cruelty to bears around the world. We are currently building a second sanctuary in Pakistan for the remaining bear baiting bears and working with the bear owners. WSPA recognises that bear owners are caught up in tradition and circumstances. The lack of education and sustainable alternatives perpetuates the bear baiting industry. Offering alternative incomes is a way that WSPA can halt the bear trade at its roots so that these bears can live free from suffering.
